Sparky Animation?

Just did an interview today. For a position in Sparky Animation.

Their quota for 1 week is 1 minute animation. Good animation. That's heavy.

I wonder if my skill is up to it... time to put my 'speed animator' to test. God please grant me your wisdom and strength.

Steelseries 7G

Gotten this keyboard from Joan for my 21st. Thanks, baby! <3

I want to attempt a little review here so please bear with me. :D This keyboard deserves it.

As you all who read the blog (if there's any at all) know, I play Audition. I am a beat up fan. I have been trying to break my perfect record and I feel that my skill has reach a certain level where I might not improve so much anymore (except I play hardcore songs for hours on ends daily), so I tried browsing keyboard and wanting to see if they make a difference.

If you are interested to see just how my skill fare, check out my youtube.

You can see that I am pretty good at it (at least I think so). For this game, especially this mode, response time is king. It's a lot more anal than Stepmania and O2Jam. I have been training for quite sometime before I can hit 800 perfect for the song on the video above (80 odd great). I can still improve but I did not train that song anymore so it's just stagnant now.

I have a theory for this game. You earn 80% of your perfect in beat up with your skill, the remaining 20% comes from the rig that you use. But yet again, your rig dictates how far you can polish your skill. It's a mutual relationship. It's like..... you just started to play beat up and you want to improve your skill, but how far you can improve also depends on how good your computer and keyboard is.
Maybe with a good pc and a good keyboard, you will reach peak of your skill within 6 months. Without, you will take 1 year to reach your peak.

I will start with my 1st keyboard ever.....................

HP (1st)
Default keyboard that comes from HP for the PC in NTU. I must say that keyboard is absolutely impossible to play with. I have overall more great than perfect in beat up mode. Granted, my skill was not the same level as I am now, but I tried to revisit the keyboard and I still am disappointed so that's a no. Won't recommend this one.
If this is yours, please change it. It's the keyboard that has the silver board for the f1 f2 f3 section and black for the rest.

Apple Macintosh Keyboard (2nd)
(The white one, but not the flat one). It's the old model that's out of production right now. I must say that the response time is amazing. But somehow I cannot get consistent timing from the keyboard. Yes it has fast response, but it's not consistent. I began to suspect that it's probably because it's a USB keyboard.
Nevertheless, I improved the most with this keyboard (solidified my theory that you need to start with a good rig before you can improve faster).
Downside? Wears out really fast. I keep changing to a new one every time the old one wears out.

Logitech (not sure which model, the same with Era keyboard (3rd))
Bought this just to try out a different keyboard because the Apple Keyboard wears out really fast. It was alright, but it's a step down from Apple because the response time is almost twice to what I am used to with Apple.
Performing alright with this keyboard, but terribly disappointed with the response time that I decided to abandon it and just keep using the old, beat up Apple keyboard.

Microsoft Wired MS500 (4th)
It's a PS2 keyboard. It is slightly faster than Logitech in terms of response time but not on par with Apple that I had. I decided to give this keyboard a chance and I don't regret it. It might not be on par with Apple, but it's really, really, consistent. Like seriously. I broke all my previous records that I did with my Apple and I began to appreciate consistency and slightly slower response time over inconsistency but lightning fast response time. This was my best keyboard and considering it's just on 20+ dollar range. Absolutely recommended.
PS: It's from this keyboard as well that I suspect ps2 is just better than USB. Consistency vs Inconsistency.

Other keyboard that I don't own but I tried for beat up:

-Some Japanese keyboard called OwlTech something: It was recommended by a friend who never play beat up, but plays audition. It supposedly is the fastest keyboard she ever owned. But when I got my hands on it, it's not as great as I thought. Sure it's not slow, but not fast either. A tad bit above average I would say. Definitely slower than my Microsoft MS500 though.

-Apple Macintosh Keyboard (Flat): This keyboard is the one that came out just after my old keyboard is out of production. My keyboard's little brother, so to speak. I was excited because I thought I might've discovered another gem of a keyboard and it's flat!!
To my disappointment, this keyboard is absolutely horrible with its response time. On par with my HP and that's a big NO to me. I was really disappointed.

- Razer Lycosa : I would say about on par with my microsoft (response time). Just a liiiil' bit slower. Very little. It's flat so it's an advantage as well. But for the price, you can buy 5 Microsoft keyboards so I never buy it. I heard multiple problems from people that own it. Like keys doesn't register and have to restart, spoilt space bar after a few months, rubber feeling become yucky after it wore out, etc.

-Razer Arctosa : I only tried it once, so I can't do an informed assessment on it, but I judged that it's roughly the same with Lycosa. Maybe slightly better. It's cheaper too so I think Arctosa is a better investment than Lycosa if you absolutely must own Razer.

-Microsoft Wired MS600 : Slower than MS500. USB Port. Inconsistency issue. But it's cheaper than MS500 and it looks quite nice so I think it's not a bad keyboard for its price.

-Razer Blackwidow Ultimate : I never tried it. But I got a review from a friend who is pretty good at beat up too. She used to play with Lycosa and she said she can't differentiate the response time with her old Lycosa. Major problem is:
1. Price. Mechanical keyboard is really pricey.
2. It's NOT N-Key Rollover which is really really disappointing. You will experience problems with Guitar Mode, for sure.
In the end my friend re-sell that keyboard and stick with Lycosa.

Up to this point, I had pretty much resign to my Microsoft Wired MS500 and thought that would probably be the best in the market. I am talking strictly about response time and consistency of course. I often dreamed about keyboard that has my old Apple response time and yet consistent as well, but it seems hard to find. Especially no one really review keyboard in terms of response time. Most of them just say 'It feels pretty fast' and that's it. The only way is to buy all those keyboard and test them with beat up mode, and I am not that rich.

Until....

Steelseries 7G became my birthday gift.

Steelseries 7G (5th, and I think last)
From the first moment I unpacked and tried this keyboard, I have been so amazed by it. This is the perfect keyboard that I have always dreamed about. Lightning fast response time + consistency.
My theory has been soundly proven ( at least to me ) that with a good peripheral, you can improve your best records. I did improve. On overage 30 perfect more than what I used to reach in any song. My greats normally are below 90 so for me to improve 30 perfect is quite significant. For particularly fast song, I improved close to 70 perfect. (A testament to the speed of this keyboard and the consistency of it.)
It's an absolutely worthy investment especially if you are an auditioner, more so a beat up-er. I discover this after a few hours playing with this keyboard. I am extremely intrigued of what makes this so I did a bit of googling. Turned out this keyboard has individual keys gold-plated to ensure the lowest latency. The reviews that I've read mostly mention this, but never have a concrete example of how low it actually is. They just base it on gut feeling.
They have never played audition. This game is anal about response time and I wish they would use it to review any keyboard, but that would require them having some sort of skill beforehand so I guess it's not easy.
Well, I can assure you now that it's absolutely right. Without question, this keyboard has the lowest latency out of all the keyboards that I've ever played with. It's probably on par or better response time compared to my Apple keyboard.

Upside:
1. Mechanical keyboard with the longest durability switch ensure this keyboard will last 10 times longer than your average membrane keyboard.
2. Unparalleled response time and consistency.
Downside:
1. No backlight, no macro. But this is not really a downside for me because I value a keyboard based on its performance, not look and extra stuff.

Considering the life span of this keyboard, it will last 10 times longer than a membrane keyboard, so the x10 price is justified to me. Especially with this amazing response time, it's a joy to play with it.

I am not affiliated with Steelseries in any way. If anything I have more history with Razer than Steelseries. I tell it for what it is.

I have found my perfect keyboard. Thanks again, baby!

Woot!

The existence of my own blog fades away from my mind until recently i frequented a blog that looks like mine and I suddenly remember that I have one too! Haha.

It's been so long. Mm hmm, quite a bit has happened to me ever since my last update.
-I rented a place (nice location, I love the fact that I can take alot of buses and not only 179/199)
-I've got a ps3 (best decision, I love my ps3 to bits, well not the ps3, the games)
-I am currently learning how to trade forex wisely as well. Anyone knows anybody who has traded profitably? I can use a tip or two :D
-Eeh, probably that's about all.

Oh, michael jackson passed away and I've been wanting to rant about it in my blog but I keep on postponing it until today. I did an extensive research after his death and the more I found the more I respect this man called Michael Joseph Jackson for his immense talent, his grace in dealing with bad media coverage (which is largely untrue, of course, take it from me. But if by chance you are already hating MJ you won't be convinced by my argument either), and his tenacity in fighting for what's right. I also admire him for fighting the entertainment industry, or more accurately, the power driving it. For a more complete coverage, please visit this site:

www.vigilantcitizen.com

The site will tell you more on various topics on various celebrities but namely it will address the issue regarding illuminati and why it's not a conspiracy theory but it's a blatant fact as clear as day.
MJ is also a great humanitarian and is recorded in Guinness book of Record as the most generous celebrity that gives almost a quarter of his wealth for the poor.
The kids that accused him? The first one has admitted that he is forced to do it by his father to get money off MJ.
The second kid that accused him subsequently bring MJ to trial. There were a lot of coverage on his trial. I still remembered the days when MJ wearing his pyjamas to court was morning news. Despite such extensive coverage, NONE (or very little) actually covered the fact that MJ is declared not guilty on all 13 charges. Read the book Michael Jackson Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones and you will know about the trial in detail.

With all this overwhelming evidence of MJ's innocence and his good samaritan works, you'll be wondering why the hell does it sound so different from everyone else views MJ, they only know him as pedophile and a freak. Well this is a very good example of the power of the media. It's scary how such a genuinely good soul can have reports of him completely distorted. MJ will be forever missed. Rest in peace.

Premature Decision-Makers?

Human lifespans are averaging at 80 - 100.

We graduate from university when we are around 20 -25 years old (yet another generalization, i think singapore guys are slightly older than that). That is around 20% of your whole life. Provided you live a long life.

And usually 80% of your life is determined by the first 20%.

The 20% stage is a stage where we are the most rebellious, naive, childish, stubborn and narrow minded. When we refuse to listen to parents' advices, when we are not responsible, when we do what we want to do, when the world still consists of friends, entertainment and occasional cram session to score at the exams.

I can't help but wonder why. Why is our lives set on a path that you built on your first 20 years. The 20 years that is the most worrying stage of one's life. The unstable 20 years. Yet it is the time where most people choose their path that they are going to walk for the rest of their lives.

And our brain start degrading after 20. Bah.

I honestly feel for criminals. I think most of them just made all the wrong choices on the first 20 years (not all, most). When they realize their mistakes, they are probably already walking the path-of-no-return. Of course it is not applicable to every criminals, but then again, how do we know it isn't? We can't read minds and we are not omniscient.

Yet another un-arranged thoughts

Editing blogs can be interesting. I have been making the 'temporal vortex' images for the last hour. I love photoshop. It makes life so much easier.

If i can't secure a job in the animation industry, i wouldn't mind having a photoshop-related kind of job. They are definitely faster to execute than animating. Faster to master too compared to Autodesk Maya. I am generalizing here. Some people who has spent their lives using Photoshop might not agree with the statement. Well, what i mean by 'master' is being able to use it at ease. Not to the point where you know about every single button and their histories in Photoshop world ( This reminds me of my Photoshop teacher, he is very knowledgeable about this ) but just to be able to navigate and do your stuffs without any headache about technical difficulties.

Maya has a steeper learning curve. Even with my current knowledge i wouldn't say i can produce 'good' animation. Not until i try. And i have been learning it since 2 years ago.

Economy's been bad recently. I wonder whether it'll pick up when i graduate next year. This reminds me of Obama and how he is doing. When it was the presidential election in US, that was the first time i got interested in politics other than my country's. McCain and Obama. I supported Obama, naturally. Obama has a gift. He is able to speak with authority and charisma. He does not stutter and exudes confidence. I think that's the main reason why so many people like him. Whether he is competent or not, we'll see in a while. Looks like he is doing pretty fine in his administration.
And he stayed in Indonesia for a short while, i wonder whether he is able to speak the language. It would certainly be interesting if i have a chance someday to meet and converse with him in my mother tongue.

Recently i began to develop interests to various things. I want to learn drum. I wish i can learn violin. I want to know what blog is all about. I once read somewhere that human brain reaches its peak at the age of 20 and it is going to degrade ever since. I am not sure how accurate it is, but this explains why we need to learn as many things as possible in our youth before our brain fail us.
Stephen Tong once said to learn as many skills as you can. They will never go to waste. The knowledge will be stored in your brain somewhere and it will aid you in your future endeavor in one way or another. You also have more diverse job scopes to choose from. In short, the more you learn, the better it is.

I sometimes wonder whether this is actually what determines talent. For example people who are very attuned to playing music games ( me) and a person who never play music games, or rarely play. If one day we spot a new music game machine and start playing together, I will grasp the concept much faster and adapt easier. The other guy will then remark 'wow you are talented'.
But is it really talent? Isn't it due to the amount of exposure i have? When i think about it then suddenly the definition of 'talent' takes a whole new meaning. Does this apply to everything? If it is, then the more things you learn, the more knowledge you store in your brain and the faster you will learn new things and the cycle will keep on repeating. With drive and motivation, can human learn an amazing amount of skillsets? Leonardo Da Vinci is a genius who is a polymath, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. His brain capabilities must be enormous and if my theory is correct, the easier it will be for him to learn new things if he wants to, given the amount of skills that he has already own.

I want to fully utilize my brain before its too late. Before i run out of time to learn new things.

First post

Hi to whoever has brace themselves to read my post.

I have been reading blogs recently and i find them quite..interesting. I won't say i read many blogs though. I think i can count the blogs I've been reading with my ten fingers., and i only read when i have nothing else to do. What i think is interesting from blogging is that it displays the unique difference between every human. It certainly is interesting to see what's going on in other people's head. How their lives differ from mine. How their ideals are alien to me. It's taking a look into a life i have never lived. Peeking to other people's head and wondered what's going on inside.

So i thought, maybe I should start my own to have my thoughts on a journal and see in the future how foolish or arrogant i sound in the past. Heh. What a reason to start blogging. Mainly I want to see inside my own head and see just how messy it is. I ever read my own math books and wondered how smart i was to be able to solve it, haha. Third-person perspective is always nice. It provides a new view.

Joan said I must be a "wall-of-text" kind of blogger. I will prove that i am not. But i think i will be anyway. Seeing as how i started my first post.

By now i realized i am typing this with an assumption that there will be people reading it. Why do i do that? is that something unconscious? I guess its habit. I always assume writing is like an essay, It is for people to read and understand. But not anymore for blogging. It's freestyle. If it's only me who understands what I am typing, then so be it. But for the sake of improving my writing, I shall try to make it understandable. If not, it will probably be useless for future reference. You'll be amazed at how fast i forget things. I probably won't even understand what i wrote in 1 year if i write it now without proper 'flow'.

Speaking of forgetting, I remember something I ever discussed with my good friends a good long time ago.

Sherlock Holmes once said humans mind is not infinitely expandable. So the choice of what you put in your brain will determine how fast your brain fills up. If you want to fill it up with useless information, it will probably get full in no time. How often you think about a certain memory also will bring about the order of memories in your brain. What you think the most will most probably be what you can summon effortlessly in mere seconds. What you just remember in passing will probably at the back row and will be eventually forgotten.

I know that he's fictional, but as always, he makes sense.

That's why humans are blessed with the ability to forget. Wonderful. But i think i have that ability a little bit too much. Added with my absent-mindedness, I can forget even the most important events. Most important stuffs.
In other words, since i forget so much, i probably has a lot of rooms in my brain for other knowledges to get in. Fast in, fast out.

My friend though. disagreed with the finite brain storage theory. She thinks it's infinite. Well. If the choice of which to pick, infinite or finite, i will definitely want an infinite storage.

But if the choice of which to trust though, I trust the finite brain storage. Mainly because trusting this has lesser disadvantages if it's proven to be wrong. And because i think it makes more sense than the other one.

Ok enough about brain. How do i even get started on this? -_- I always jump from idea to idea quickly. Maybe only me can understand why i switch topic so fast, haha.

I shall go to sleep. It's been a long day...and its a darn long post. Looks like Joan is right ~_~ Adieu.
